Election of the children's Carnival King and Queen. 10.00 pm Grand Fiesta in the Palacio de Congresos including Brazilian music and dance group 'Brasil Samba y Carnaval' as well as performances by various carnival music groups (chirigotas and comparsas). Sunday, 11th March 5.00 pm Grand Carnival Cavalcade starting at the top of Calle Terraza by the Farmers Cooperative and following the route: Calles Terraza, Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, Calvario, Ebro, Tajo, Pilar de Farinós, Avda. de Andalucía, Avda. Juan Carlos I, Avda. de España, Terraza and finally finishing back at the Cooperativa Agrícola. 11.00 pm The 'Burying of the Sardine' ceremony at La Rada beach.
Marbella ex police chief has been suspended from the force
The Management Committee which now runs Marbella has suspended the former Chief of Local Police, Rafael del Pozo, from his job and has started disciplinary proceedings against him. His salary has also been withdrawn. It came on Wednesday, the day del Pozo was due to return to work after being signed off sick since his arrest in the Malaya case. Disciplinary proceedings could not take place during that time: it's understood that they're related to preserving the image of the force in the town. The Management Committee instead opted for demoting him as Police Chief, and appointed Rafael Mora as Acting Chief of Local Police. Del Pozo has been arrested on three occasions in the Malaya case and is currently out on bail of 20,000 €. He's charged with failure to stop a crime, influence peddling and illegal possession of weapons, amongst other charges.
